The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay is an incredible book set in South Africa shortly before World War II, and following fifteen years in the life of the narrator, Peekay.  The novel is a snapshot of history in South Africa, and tale of a boy with big dreams growing into maturity. With beautiful description of the South African landscape, and excellent character development, The Power of One should not be missed. Recommended by Christa.
