Advent is the first of a proposed trilogy by James Treadwell about the return of magic to an enlightenment-blighted world.  The protagonist is a fifteen year old boy who has been troubled with a “imaginary friend” who is actually not imaginary.  He is sent from his troubled home after being suspended from his school to visit his flighty aunt, who lives in the gatehouse of a crumbling manor house.  His subsequent adventures, alternating with chapters set in the 16th century life of Johannes Faust, had me staying up until 1 AM to finish it.  I am eagerly waiting for the next installment!  -Recommended by Kate
